Room 8 in the Art Room!

LEARN
  • WALT manipulate and work correctly with clay.
  • WAL new art vocabulary - scoring, smudging, depth, consistency, pliable, kiln.

CREATE

What a fabulous start to my Tuesday! I LOVED having Room 8 down in the Art room today - and what astounding art was created! Room 8 learned all about scoring clay and then smudging the clay to join two pieces as one. Then they learned about having the right consistency of their clay - not too wet, not too dry - keeping it pliable. We checked the depth of our clay to make sure it was a thumb width in height to keep it strong, and we discussed putting our clay into a kiln which heats the clay to 1000 degrees to turn it into rock!

Off to the Kiln!

Today Madjik and I took 125 clay fish to a shop in Botney to be cooked in their kiln! It took us a long time to figure out how to move all of the fish so that nothing would break. Some animals, sadly, died on the way to the kiln, but I'm already planning on how to fix them up once they are baked and home at school again!

The Peace Project!

How lucky are we are Tamaki Primary School to be able to be part of the worldwide 'Peace Project!' We are participating in this in conjunction with the Panmure library in order to encourage peaceful relationships in our community.

Every Tuesday after school, Mrs Manuyag goes to the Panmure library to work with students from many different schools, and their families to create two murals that show what peaceful relationships look like to us in Panmure. Then on Thursdays, the children at Tamaki Primary school also work on THEIR two murals that are showing the same thing.

The cool thing is that all four murals link together!

Next Tuesday, we will be showing our finished drafts to the Panmure Business Association, who are helping to fund our project, and then will begin to sketch the drafts onto the big boards, ready for painting! If you are free, come and join us in the Panmure library!

Art Technology - Term 3, Week 3!

Last week we started our brainstorms for our ideas for our drain art. This week we completed our drafts and then took them outside to put around the drains/pipes to see what they would look like!

We WELCOME your comments and feedback, so we can make changes before we begin painting next week!

P.S. Make sure you come back and check out the Art Blog next week - Mrs Manuyag will post some photos of our painting! Our fingers are crossed for a bright, sunny day!

Art Extension (Juniors)

We have been learning about using different Art media to create a masterpiece!

Last week we learned about water colour paints. Today we learned that there is a difference between types of pastels! We used oil pastels to create lines. We also used felts and paints to make dots.

Next week we are excited to learn about using chalk pastels to complete our artwork!
